Knight the comedy transvestite

Eddie Izzard should be knighted with immediate effect. Footballers get MBEs for being paid 100,000 grand a week to kick a ball around, cricketers get MBEs for winning one ashes series, Elton John gets a knighthood for singing candle in the wind at a funeral and consequently resurrecting his career. Knight him now.

My appeal (admittedly only sent out as a post on my Facebook page so unlikely to come across the desk of the Prime Minister or The Queen) follows watching a BBC special about Eddie Izzard's epic ultra-endurance fundraising effort for BBC's Sport Relief. Absolutely incredibly, Eddie Izzard, an untrained and only reasonably fit 47 year old comedian ran 43 marathons in 51 days, starting in London and going through England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland before ending in Trafalgar Square. Running 6 marathons per 7 days would be an almost impossible task for a highly trained Olympian. For someone who has never run a single marathon before, it was nothing short of super human.

Watching it was unbelievably inspiring - although I suppose that statement can only be true if it does inspire me to do something. Fair enough, I did donate 35 quid to Sport Relief and today I went for a run and when wanting to stop I thought about the program I had watched last night and I did keep going, but 35 quid is not a lot and I only ran for 37 minutes (but in fairness it was at altitude being as I am, in Switzerland, and was up and down fairly steep slopes). Will it inspire me to do anything else? I don't know but I hope so. I can say now that I do intend to do more for charity but that's easy to say - let's see if I do it.
